Description: This is the true heritage Cornish Bantam, slow-growing and long-lived, with stout bone and wide body. Don’t let their small size fool you. These birds are heavy with dense muscle and tight feather – the patterning on the Darks glistening green. Don’s birds breed naturally without a need for AI (artificial insemination), and females can be productive for five years, sometimes longer. Don selects for heavy bone, round shank with wide leg set, broad head structure, and balance to produce a bird that is unmistakably Cornish. This lineage traces back to Henry Mager, who was the premier Cornish breeder and showman of his day. In addition to our base breeding trios, we are offering elite trios from our keeper pens with heavy bone, heavy body, and overall balanced composition.
There are very few breeders producing Cornish bantams in the numbers and quality that Don does, and even fewer offering chicks. What makes these chicks different from hatchery stock is that they are coming from the same select pens that Don uses to produce his own stock. These birds have been selected year after year to meet breed standards, so the genetics are strong. And while we can’t guarantee that every chick will be a show winner, you have the same opportunity to grow a show champion out of these chicks as the breeder.
We are offering Cornish Bantam chicks in boxes of 8, 10, and 12 and include at least one extra. Chicks are sold started, straight-run and ship at 2-3 weeks of age. Color varieties offered for 2025/2026 are Dark, White, and Breeder’s Choice (mix of Dark and White). We are taking pre-orders now for spring 2026 delivery. Contact us if you are interested in larger numbers than what we offer through the website.

We take great pride in shipping the vey best birds available. When you purchase from Blue Hour you have the confidence of purchasing from breeders with fifty years or more of experience breeding and selecting standard-bred fowl. We guarantee the birds are true to breed standard, healthy, and shipped using USPS approved boxes. We generally ship on Mondays and Tuesdays. Birds ship USPS Express Mail out of Portland, Oregon. If you would like to pick up at the farm or arrange courier pick up we can work with you to arrange a pick up date. Birds are normally shipped the end of October through the end of May. We do not ship during the summer months due to heat, though pick up at the farm can be arranged year-round.
We put a great deal of effort into making sure the birds we ship are healthy, boxed in USPS approved shipping boxes, and are packed with a source of moisture to reduce travel stress. Birds are shipped FOB Origin meaning the buyer takes ownership of the birds once they leave our hands. We recommend that you contact your local post office and ask them to call you as soon as the birds arrive, and add electrolytes to your birds’ drinking water upon arrival and have a warm, clean brooder space ready for them. Travel is a stressor so it can take some time for birds to settle into their new environment. We do not offer a shipping refund for delayed arrival. The USPS offers $100 insurance per parcel in the event of loss. If you experience the loss of bird in transit you may request the insurance refund, if you choose to, via the USPS website. This purchase is not refundable.
