Description: The Japanese Bantam, as it’s known in most of the English-speaking world, is an ancient breed dating back to at least the 1600s and has long been admired for its beauty. Originating in south China in what we now know as Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. In much of Asia the Japanese bantam is known as the Chabo and in Spanish-speaking countries is also known as the Nagasaki. This ornamental bantam breed is recognizable by its exaggerated head and comb, prominent eye, short back, and long tail which all appear even more pronounced as a result of the breed’s short leg. The Black Tailed White Japanese is the iconic color in the breed, though several other color varieties are recognized.

I am working with what I consider to be some of the finest Japanese bantam genetics in the US thanks to two top breeders who have dedicated much of their lives to this breed, and I have them in an array of colors and in quality that would be hard to find just about anywhere. I am selecting these birds for short, wide body, prominent head features, short leg, and feather quality and am offering select birds for sale.

Today I am offering trios that correspond to the photos - you will be receiving the actual birds shown:

Trio #1: Golden Duckwing cockerel x Black Breasted Red pullets. This is a trio for the true collector. Ultra-rare colors with excellent Japanese type. This mating should produce both Golden Duckwing and Black Breasted Red offspring.

Trio #2: Gray young trio. This color has been very in demand and this is the last trio i will have available for this year.

As there is only one of each trio listed, when the trio is sold it will show as sold out on the website. I will continue to add trios as I have time to take photos.

Pricing: Japanese Bantams that meet my selection criteria for adherence to breed standard start at $500 per trio. Shipping and box for Japanese Bantam  trios runs $260 in the lower 48 states. The total cost of a pair with shipping is $760.

The APA recognizes Japanese Bantams in Barred, Black, Black Tailed Buff, Black Tailed White, Brown Red, Gray, Mottled, Wheaten, & White.

If you would like to pick up at the farm or arrange courier pick up we can work with you to arrange a pick up date. Birds are normally shipped the end of October through the end of May. We do not ship during the summer months due to heat, though pick up at the farm can be arranged year-round.

  • We put a great deal of effort into making sure the birds we ship are healthy, boxed in USPS approved shipping boxes, and are packed with a source of moisture to reduce travel stress. Birds are shipped FOB Origin meaning the buyer takes ownership of the birds once they leave our hands. We recommend that you contact your local post office and ask them to call you as soon as the birds arrive, and add electrolytes to your birds’ drinking water upon arrival. Limit their feed for the first day. Travel is a stressor so it can take some time for birds to settle into their new environment. We do not offer a shipping refund for delayed arrival. The USPS offers $100 insurance per parcel in the event of loss. If you experience the loss of bird in transit you may request the insurance refund, if you choose to, via the USPS website. This purchase is not refundable.
